Snorkeling with GoPro Session at Trou aux Biches, Mauritius

Absolutely gorgeous. The video does not even give proper credit to the place. It was cozy family snorkeling trip at Trou aux Biches, public beach in north of Mauritius. Not my first time there, but it was for my cousin and sis-in-law. They were mind-blown by the diversity of corals and fishes inside the lagoon - mine had already been blown before :)

The water is around 1.5 to 2 metres deep so its perfect for amateurs and first-time snorkelers. The real dangers are the boats cruising through and the corals being so huge that you might actually get scratched. Having your "Divers Below" balloon bobbing next you is a must to avoid turning into mincemeat, and be careful around the corals: you don't want to bump into them just as much as they don't want to bump into you. The damage is reciprocal - maybe even worse for the corals.

I started off around 5p.m; the sun was setting hence the gradually decreasing colour intensity throughout the video. I totally missed the sun set by the way; It could have made a great conclusion to the video.

The underwater video was shot with my GoPro Session. To avoid the shakiness and its induced headache, I've devised a refreshing way of getting stable shots without using any digital stabiliser: I let the camera sit on the sea bed. This was only possible because of the relatively shallow water.

I'll try to make good use of my sport camera in my future outings. I won't let the blog stay grim anymore.
